Old York Country Country Club in Chesterfield, NJ: The Wedding of Chelsey and Dale
Chelsey and Dale’s wedding was a visual feast. Their attention to detail in making their theme and wedding day vibes come to life was inspiring. They went with a library theme for the wedding, and incorporated books for the reception table decor and card catalog seating cards. It was SO CUTE. Chelsey had a bunch of loose pages for us to use for a photo she had in mind (it’s toward the bottom of this blog), and they changed out the champagne with depression glass glasses that she collected. The Photo Booth was a converted Volkswagen bus [1959] that made for some adorable portraits, too. The bridesmaid dresses were all in jewel tones and complimented each other so nicely, and the florals were an incredible rainbow of color. Everything about this wedding was per-fec-tion. We are so grateful that they chose us to be their wedding photographers! #TilDeathBrewUsPart
How did you and your partner meet?
Dale and I originally met in middle school. He was a grade younger than me. We had mutual friends, but we didn’t go to the same high school. We ran into each other after I moved back to Hamilton after college at a bar and then ran into each other again the next day... at a different bar.
When did you first know he / she was "the one?"
The second time we ran into each other we pretty much forgot we were there with other people - and we’ve pretty much inseparable since. The friend I ran into him with both times said to me on the drive home “you look at him with love in your eyes” - very weird at the time but I think as soon as I met him (again).
How did he / she propose?
I surprised him with a vacation for his birthday to Portland, Oregon and he waited until the day before we left to return home. We were on Cannon Beach in front of the “hay stack rock” from the Goonies movie {we didn’t know it was from the movie at the time}.
What was your favorite moment from the day?
First look!
Are there any DIY details you’d like to tell us about?
I made most of my decorations - card box, signs etc - our friend welded our cake topper. I collected all of the champagne glasses from goodwill antique store and flea markets.
What was the best advice you were given?
Dale: “don’t lock your knees” lmao.
What is your ceremony music?
Hands Down - Dashboard Confessional. It’s always been my karaoke song and we’re emo kids at heart but knowing most of our friends and family want to dance and not mosh i had to get my fix somehow. I HAD ago leave the ceremony at 1 min and 55 seconds,
Who is your officiant? How did you choose him/her?
Our good friend, Todd. We got down on one knee and popped the question “will you marry us” — we’ve had a joke with him. For years we said we wanted him to marry us, and we don’t break promises.
What were your vows like?
His: Self written, personal, private, and emotional
Hers: Self written, personal with a touch of humor.
Are you including any traditions / religious rights in your wedding?
Beer is our religion, so in that case, yes!
What was your favorite thing about your wedding ceremony?
His: vows
Hers: vows, pouring ceremony.
How would you describe your reception theme?
“Books and Brews”? Vintage corky unique
What inspired you when you were planning your wedding?
Beer and doing something unique. Beer—it’s how we fell and love and it’s our favorite thing to do together and I’ve never been traditional. At first I wanted to wear a color as my dress but then decided every girl wants to wear a white dress and this is my only chance - i feel in love with the jewel tones and the flower “King Pro Tea.”
Were there specific blogs / websites / apps / resource materials you found useful during your planning process?
Pinterest helped get the juices flowing for sure but mostly i loved going to different Goodwill stores and flea markets looking for inspiration.
What was your favorite part of the planning process?
Having a reason to get all of my friends and family together. Whether is was my maid of honor helping me with the seating chart or my mom coming to my fittings or all of my bridesmaids going to pick out dresses.
What is the first dance song? Father/daughter or mother/son dance?
Can’t take my eyes off of you - Muse
If you had it to do over again, is there anything you would do differently?
Not one thing.
What was your favorite moment or part of the reception?
Speeches
What advice do you have for other couples in the midst of planning a wedding?
Enjoy every minute of the engagement, and planning process. Trust the professionals and add your own personal touch.
Do you have any budget tips for other couples?
Make a priority list, decide where to splurge and where to save. but remember it’s all expensive so try not to nickel and dime. - if you can DIY do it., maybe stressful but you’ll be proud and save some dough.
