Mountain Creek in Vernon, NJ: The Wedding of Holly and John
Holley and John are two incredibly talented tattoo artists, and their wedding on TOP OF A MOUNTAIN was amazing! Yes, these two awesome people found the amazing wedding venue of their dreams in the Mountain Creek Hotel. Their guests got to ride a gondola (like a ski lift) up to the top of the mountain to enjoy their ceremony and absolutely breathtaking views. It was AWESOME. And the lighting near the ceremony in an open field? To die for. We could have shot their portraits in that spot forever. So, so beautiful. The tall grasses and wildflowers with the setting sun gave the portraits the most beautiful, rustic, and earthy vibe. Such a dream come true for us as wedding photographers. Scroll to enjoy the photos! (PS - The cake topper was painted by the bride so it would look like them! So cute!) #READYSETZGO
How did you and your partner meet?
We both followed each other on Instagram throughout our apprenticeships and met each other to exchange art prints.
How did he / she propose?
John proposed on a hike in Hawaii’s north shore during sunset. It was very sweet and romantic.
What are you most looking forward to?
Living our lives together. We are so excited to do more traveling and see the world as husband and wife.
Why did you choose the ceremony and reception locations?
Because it is beautiful and it seemed the most “us.”
How did you go about planning your ceremony?
Once we decided on the venue with the mountain top it was all pretty easy.
What is your ceremony music?
We are actually obsessed with the show the office, so we have decided to use a surprisingly sweet piano rendition of the theme song to the show.
What was your favorite thing about your wedding ceremony?
We both loved everyone’s reactions to our entrance song. I personally loved John’s face. But the groom’s reaction is always my favorite.
What was your favorite moment from the day?
Seeing John’s face when I started to walk down the ceremony stairs.
Describe your ceremony in three words:
Short, sweet and simple.
What were your vows like?
I wrote my vows down and John tried his best to do his from memory. We wrote them ourselves.
Who is your officiant? How did you choose him/her?
Our officiant is a long time friend of the groom’s who has been a big part of our relationship from the start. We chose him mainly because we knew we didn’t want to be married by a stranger.
What are your ceremony readings?
We will be exchanging our own vows. Other than that it will literally be the bare minimum of words the state needs to be said before we are “married.”
What food are you most looking forward to on the wedding reception menu?
The mushroom ravioli.
Tell us about the cake!!
The cake is made up of two different cakes, one being a chocolate cake with a tiramisu icing and the other is a vanilla cake with a cannoli cream filling. It will be ombré grey to white to match some of our color scheme.
What advice do you have for other couples in the midst of planning a wedding?
Have fun. Just have fun with all of it.
What was your favorite moment or part of the reception?
Dancing with john. We were so excited to do our first dance.
What is the first dance song? Father/daughter or mother/son dance?
Father daughter is little wild one by the oneders and the grooms is stand by you by the pretenders
How would you describe your reception theme?
Rustic
Do you have any budget tips for other couples?
Give yourselves time, DYI anything you can, be prepared!
What was the best advice you were given?
Someone told me to make sure that I just sat down during my wedding to people watch. And I did. I gave myself several moments to sit back, relax and take in everything around me, my friends, family, decor, everything.
If you had it to do over again, is there anything you would do differently?
