Mountain Creek, Vernon, NJ: The Wedding of Doug and Katie
I fell in love with Doug and Katie as soon as we met because Doug was casually wearing a World / Inferno Friendship Society shirt. WIFS is my favorite band, and Jack Terricloth is my favorite dead punk rocker, so I screamed, and then they screamed, and then we fell in love—just as all true love stories should go.
Anyway, please enjoy these moments from their beautiful wedding!
Oh, also, you know the couple has a solid crew when the groomsmen are helping set up for the reception. I also texted my husband during prep with a photo of Katie’s slippers and instructed him to find them for me. I am wearing them right now as I type. :-)
Why did you choose the ceremony and reception locations?
When we pulled up to the venue it looked like the Overlook Hotel from The Shining and that may or may not have played a part in deciding to choose Mountain Creek.
How did you and your partner meet?
We met at a Silverstein show where Doug was playing bass in the opening band
How did he / she propose?
Doug proposed on Halloween 2020 at a party where we had all of our little friend pod with us and family on the phones
It was very obvious how well loved Katie and Doug are. People were crying all day long. Like, a lot lot of crying, and it all started when Katie emerged all done up from the dressing room for her friends to see.
Their crew was so much fun, and so easy to work with. <3
Were there specific blogs / websites / apps / resource materials you found useful during your planning process?
Pinterest was a lifesaver.
What is your ceremony music?
String quartet versions of some of our favorite songs
Who is your officiant? How did you choose them?
Our friend Anthony is the officiant, we knew from the very beginning that we wanted him to be our wedding officiant
How would you describe your reception theme?
Moody, romantic tones with gold accents. We didn't want to have a Halloween themed wedding so close to the actual day.
Are there any DIY details you’d like to tell us about?
We tried to DIY as much of the decor as possible. We dyed and assembled the centerpieces ourselves and made the mirror sign
It really was just the best party. (And I cried during the father / daughter dance because of the song they chose. THANKS KATIE.)
What is the first dance song? Father/daughter or mother/son dance?
Our first dance is Baby I love You by The Ramones
Father / daughter dance is Lullaby by Billy Joel
Mother / son dance is Let It Be by The Beatles
What was your favorite part of the planning process?
Getting the wedding playlists together
