The Madison Hotel: The Wedding of Anne & Nick
LB here! This wedding was my first time shooting at the glorious (yes, glorious) Madison Hotel in Morristown, NJ. What a playground. From the absolutely incredible glass conservatory to the awesome old timey dining train car--John and I could have spent the whole day doing portraits there.
We send every couple questionnaires before and after their wedding day asking what they're most excited about, what the best moments were, if they have any advice for anyone in the midst of planning their own wedding, etc. Continue reading to hear all about their day, and check out the photos to see it all come to fruition. Enjoy!
How did you and your partner meet?
We were introduced by Nick's brother's fiancee (now wife). Her and I were good friends and she thought it would be fun to set us up!
What was your favorite moment from the day?
Seeing my husband for the very first time and him telling me how gorgeous I was. It was a truly genuine moment.
When did you first know he / she was "the one?"
As soon as I met Nick, I couldn't stop thinking about him. A few days after we met, we went out on a date and laughed the entire time. A week after meeting we spent the day in the city together and it was that day that we both knew we wanted to be together.
(I love a good photobomb!)
How did he / she propose?
Nick had been trying to get me to go out to dinner at the restaurant where we had out first date. He kept telling me he wanted fried calamari. I did not want to go that particular day because I did not want fried food and asked if we could wait until the following weekend. Nick obliged and we went the following weekend and after we finished dinner, we got into his car and all of "our songs" were on a CD that he had made for me. He had the songs ordered to tell me a story. At the last song, he got out of the car, got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. I cried like a little baby!!
What are you most looking forward to?
I cannot wait to be married and spend my life with the person i love more than anything.
Why did you choose the ceremony and reception locations?
As soon as we got to the Madison Hotel and saw their beautiful glass conservatory, we both knew that it was so unique and breathtakingly beautiful.
What were your vows like?
Romantic and simple. A bit more beyond classic, but true to the roots of what marriage is.
What was your favorite thing about your wedding ceremony?
Just how beautiful it was. The Madison Hotel Conservatory is breathtaking.
Are there any DIY details you’d like to tell us about?
For our wedding favors, I went back and forth on so many different options! I finally decided that i wanted to make something and came up with the idea of flavored seasoning salts. I had so much fun with them. I made a wine salt, roasted garlic salt, sriracha lime, and thyme and lemon. I used all fresh ingredients and am proud that everyone will get to take home something that I made.
Tell us about the cake!!
Vanilla cake with canolli filling!!
What is the first dance song? Father/daughter or mother/son dance?
First dance song is A Thousand Years by Christina Perry. Father/Daughter dance is My Girl.
What was your favorite moment or part of the reception?
All the dancing. Watching my parents have more fun than I could have imagined made me happier than anything else.
What advice do you have for other couples in the midst of planning a wedding?
Try not to take it all on yourselves! We should have off loaded a few more tasks to the wedding party.
What was the best advice you were given?
Take a minute to enjoy the night. Walk outside, and take it all in.
If you had it to do over again, is there anything you would do differently?
Nothing! I had the most magical night I could have ever dreamed of.
