David's Country Inn: The Wedding of Sasha and Jay
How did you and your partner meet?
We met through a mutual friend. We both worked at Nordstrom, but never at the same time. A month after he left, I started working in the department next to his. Fast forward 1.5 years, when I left, he came back to that store, and we still never met!
We finally met about 2 months later, and he wanted nothing to do with me! He thought I was annoying and I thought he was super cute and funny. Fast forward another 6 months, and we started talking about music (which we both love). We started dating not long after that and the rest is history! He still thinks I am annoying, and I still think he is super cute and funny, so nothing has really changed. Haha
Are you including any traditions / religious rights in your wedding?
My grandma (who is no longer with us) gave my mom a handkerchief when she was getting married. She got these handkerchiefs from Europe I believe, and my mom wore/used the handkerchief when she got married. My mom gave me the handkerchief and I am using it to wrap my bouquet. This way my grandma is with me when I walk down the aisle.
How did he / she propose?
Our favorite band (Mumford & Sons) was playing in upstate NY, so we bought lawn tickets to take a little mini vacation up to Saratoga Springs. Saratoga Springs is also known for there mineral baths, so I booked us an appointment for one at a spa. Afterwards we went wine tasting (one of my favorite things to do) and he did it there! That night we went to see Mumford (which both of us dont really remember). It was the perfect day!
Are there any DIY details you’d like to tell us about?
I am not crafty at all. So for me to do anything DIY and make it look good, is very slim. Since none of my grandparents are around and neither is Jay's we still wanted them to be with us on this special day. Our venue is an old vintage victorian house. We were able to get our grandparents & parents pictures on their wedding day. We then framed them and will be putting it around the venue. This way, they are with us and looking down on us.
What is the first dance song? Father/daughter or mother/son dance?
The weekend that Jay and I got engaged, we went to see Florence & The Machine. She is one of our favorite artists and she just blew us away. Our first dance is "Stand By Me" by Florence. Every time I hear this song, I get goose bumps. It takes me back to that perfect weekend and before the crazy planning began!
