Asbury Park Convention Hall: The Wedding of Emily & Martin
I saw surprise after surprise when I was going through this gallery and choosing images to feature. Aside from instantly loving the personal style of the bride and groom (her beautiful tattoos, his awesome belt buckle and rings), I've never seen a guitar as a wedding day gift before! I also loved how included their dogs were. They even brought one of the pups in for their first dance! 😍I loooved the big, beautiful, bold flowers in the bouquets, and that trend of bright color continued right through to the reception. By the way, a wedding at Convention Hall? Getting married on a stage where legends have stood? Amazing.
It's clear that Emily and Martin are an awesomely non-traditional, creative, and artistic couple, who are lucky to have amazingly awesome and fun family and friends. The photos from their wedding day are dripping with life and emotion and joy, and all the DIY details from their reception are gorgeous. They burst with beautiful, bold color and are a visual feast. This wedding is so badass and full of a truly rock 'n' roll crew.
A few words from our bride:
Our wedding was was a complete whirlwind...as weddings are. Our wedding was set for May 6th and it was scheduled to be on the beach at Anchor's Bend, outside of Convention Hall. Well, turns out Mother Nature had other plans for us and decided to throw a monsoon at us. It was about 45 degrees, pouring rain and 50 mph winds...really, we got ready ACROSS THE STREET and we had to drive over to Convention Hall bc the weather was so bad. But the VERY kind and ambitious crew at Convention Hall said, "Hey, well the other event that was booked here cancelled so maybe you should have it inside?"...as if we had an option. But it couldn't have worked out more amazing. My husband and I are major music fans so to get married on the same stage that hosted Black Sabbath, Led Zepplin, the Stones, Otis Redding, Pink Floyd, The Clash...I mean the list is endless.
And the fact that we had all anticipated an outdoor beach wedding that very suddenly turned into an indoor wedding during a nor'easter? I mean I really never worried about my photographers. I already had this feeling that they were adaptable and you know what, there came a point that morning where I just had to let go. Because I was getting married to my best friend and that was it! And if that's all I got to do that day, then that was just fine. But the day turned out wayyyyy better than I anticipated. And as the photos trickled in I was AMAZED. As you can imagine, there was plenty of booze, loud music and amazing people, so that day is gone way too fast. Thank God we had Inspire Me Imagery there...really, I don't know how it would've turned out with anyone else.
Any advice for other couples planning their wedding?
It's so important to have a connection with your photographer so you can be comfortable with them. John was really cool, really friendly and he was always really easy to get in touch with. We were worried about pricing and IMI was very reasonable which was a HUGE relief because I really had felt like I already found my photographers and if it was out of our budget that would have been a major bummer. One thing I regret is not booking an engagement shoot. Like I said before, it's important to feel comfortable in front of the camera and John definitely stressed this to us. But we were stubborn and insisted it wasn't necessary for us and looking back I really wish I had that opportunity. Moral of the story is...for any couples reading this, if you can find the few extra dollars for a pre-wedding shoot, I'd really recommend it.
